Bioentonomy
New bio-economy strategies through insect biotechnology
The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) has granted AMSlab and Alfredo Iñesta funding for the research project ‘Bioentonomy: new bioeconomy strategies through insect biotechnology‘ (IDI-20210222).
The project’s main objectives are:
- The development and formulation of new products based on insects fed with agro-industrial waste for use as agricultural inputs.
- The study of protein and lipid fractions from insect biomass that demonstrate interesting biological activity.
Bioentonomy has been proposed to run for a period of 36 months, starting from September 2020, and is being coordinated by Alfredo Iñesta and AMSlab (AMSbiopharma) in the provinces of Alicante and Lugo, respectively, with the collaboration of the Tecnova Technological Centre (located in Almería) and the University of Santiago de Compostela, and Xenotechs Laboratorios-AMSfood, (all two located in Lugo).
This project is part of the call for R&D projects, subsidised by the CDTI, supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and co-funded using European Union Structural Funds (ERDF) as part of the “Smart Growth” Operational Programme 2014-2020.
Budget: €642,774.
